Do you write letters? Not notes on cards, but true letters? I used to. I was lucky to grow up with 6 cousins (3 girls and 3 boys) who were close enough that we saw them pretty frequently, but far enough away that visits were special and SO MUCH fun. In between visits, Andrea, Susan and Rebecca and I would send letters. Really. We wrote each other (long distance calls were expensive back then), on paper (Rebecca sometimes sent pretty cards, but they qualified as letters as they were very "newsy"), and I've held on to them...they are really sweet to read now. My girls have read a couple of my favorites that I use as bookmarks...and they've hooted over them. This was in the mid-80s and we were a pretty tame bunch so it's all very G-rated...one of my favorite quotes about the necessity of "sparkling conversation" to attract a boy can be found in one...this was written by the cousin who introduced me to Jane Austen...sounds like one of her lines, doesn't it?
You know, I go off on tangents easily...which drives my family crazy, but here's the thing...letter writing is important. Not only do they make everyone slow down, but they're also documents that your friends and family will treasure. My grandmother wrote me letters throughout college - I'm sure she did for all of her 8 grandchildren. I still have them and treasure them. She talks about her quilting ladies, the red birds (cardinals) and other little details happening in Aurora, Indiana. Yes, it takes time, but it's totally worth it.
To help you get into letter writing (and maybe to get myself back into letter writing), we've come up with a lovely set of stationery -- true stationery. Featuring quotes from two famous letter writers -- Emily Dickinson and Jane Austen and some sweet illustrations.
The Dickinson set includes 12 sheets of a beautiful heavy-weight paper (6.25" wide x 9" high). 6 sheets feature a quote from Emily, "if you don't answer this letter soon, I shall- I shall do something dreadful" and 6 have a cute bee printed on them (thank you cousin Rebecca for painting that bee!). The envelopes are a lovely lavender shade. The Austen set includes 12 sheets of the same lovely paper. 6 sheets feature a quote from Jane, "I have so many little matters to tell you of I cannot wait any longer" and the other 6 have a cute teacup printed on them (Anna's art). The envelopes are a pretty blue. I am not sure I have a favorite. Each set retails for $18. Warning...this makes a fantastic holiday gift!!
If you'd like to order, each set is $18. They are not on our website yet, but you can order by emailing me at she.said.it.cards@gmail.com
I hope you start writing letters and I hope I get back into it...it's a great habit!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Kathryn
